Avoid These Common Summer Plumbing Problems

Plumbing problems are never fun to deal with and always seem to happen at the most inconvenient time. Unfortunately, summer is a time when we see an uptick in plumbing problems, and a lot of that has to do with the higher temperatures.

But you can always give us a call for plumbing service in Burlington, VT, and our team will be there to help. One of the best ways to stay ahead of plumbing problems is knowing what to expect from early signs of problems. You can keep reading to learn more about common plumbing problems that we see during the summer time, and what you need to do if you think something is wrong.

Drain Clogs

Clogs are more common in summer, especially if you have kids at home. They are home during the day more often than they are during the school year, and miscellaneous things are more likely to go down your drain. Whether it be a small toy or piece of jewelry, or even pieces of soap and food particles, clogs can happen very easily.

You can avoid drain clogs by investing in mesh drain covers. The mesh design has smaller holes than other types of drain covers, so less makes it through to wash down your drain. You can remove the mesh drain covers at the end of each day to wipe them down to throw away any debris that gets captured. Then replace the mesh drain covers again and repeat.

Low Water Pressure

It’s also common to experience low water pressure. If your area has particularly hard water with high mineral content, these minerals can gather behind your faucets and showerheads, blocking water flow. You can remove the mesh covers to your faucets and the showerhead and rinse them out with vinegar to eliminate these particles. If you can’t get the covers off, you can give our team a call and we can help. If it turns out that isn’t the problem, our team can do some troubleshooting to figure out the source of your low water pressure.

Sprinkler Issues

It is also common to have sprinkler issues after your sprinklers sit unused for the fall and winter seasons. If your area experiences a freeze warning, water that was left behind in your sprinkler freezes, causing the pipes to expand and leading to problems. You may get blockages in your sprinkler lines, or have leaks that mean water escapes before ever making it to the sprinkler heads. No matter what the problem, our team can check it out and get it fixed.

Leaks

You also want to keep an eye out for leaks. Leaks can happen in a variety of ways. You may have a loose pipe that is causing a leak under a sink or a leak in the form of a dripping faucet or running toilet. Each of these is a problem because you have the potential for water damage and higher water bills.

When you notice a leak, you should get it addressed sooner rather than later. Otherwise, you may have a surprise water bill that is much higher than it usually is, or the expense of repairing damage from a leak.
