Which it is. Spring maintenance preps the air conditioner right before the time when it does the most work, and it also lets you schedule a convenient time for the service when you won\u2019t have to rely on the cooling system.<\/p>\n<p>But we don\u2019t want people to think that spring limits air conditioning maintenance. Yes, it\u2019s the best time for it. But once spring is past, that doesn\u2019t mean the opportunity for maintenance is over. This isn\u2019t a situation where, if you didn\u2019t schedule it for the spring, you\u2019ll now have to wait until <em>next<\/em> spring before you do it. There is no terminal date on AC maintenance\u2014except that it needs to be done once a year. Have it done in winter, fall, or midsummer\u2014but please have it done!<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Why We Stress Annual Maintenance So Much<\/h2>\n<p>Again, we encourage spring as the best season for AC maintenance. But if you don\u2019t get it done in spring, you\u2019re still being a responsible homeowner if you schedule it before the end of the year. And we don\u2019t recommend delaying\u2014the best time for maintenance is <em>right now<\/em> if you haven\u2019t done it already.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the problems skipping maintenance creates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Emergency breakdowns: <\/strong>This is the problem you most want to avoid\u2014needing to call for repair technicians when the AC stops working on the hottest day of the year. (Of course, that\u2019s when it will break down.) If the AC is annually maintained, there is little chance of this occurring.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Too many repair needs:<\/strong> Any repair need seems like too many, doesn\u2019t it? And when you consider that an annually maintained AC can see\u00a0up to 85% fewer repairs, that\u2019s getting pretty close to \u201cno repairs.\u201d Or as close as you can get.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Voided warranty:<\/strong> You may end up voiding the vital equipment warranty for your AC if you don\u2019t have regular maintenance. This won\u2019t make you happy when you have to pay for a repair or replacement the warranty would\u2019ve covered.<\/li>\n<li><strong>High utility bills:<\/strong> When the AC is allowed to slowly run down because of a lack of annual tune-ups, it will start pushing up the electrical bills. You\u2019ll pay more than necessary for the same amount of cooling.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Low capacity:<\/strong> Or maybe not even the same amount of cooling, because a declining AC will also start to lose cooling capacity. Pay more for less?
